Jade is an ornamental stone, and is the name used to refer to two different metamorphic rocks made up of different silicate minerals.  Nephrite consists of a microcrystaline interlocking fibrous matrix of the calcium, magnesium-iron rich amphibole mineral series tremolite (calcium-magnesium)-ferroactinolite (calcium-magnesium-iron).  The higher the iron content the greener the colour.  Jadeite is a sodium- and aluminium-richpyroxene. The gem form of the mineral is a microcrystaline interlocking crystal matrix.

Metaphysical:  In any of its manifestations, jade is considered to be a lucky stone that offers good health, wealth, and love. Jade can help you realize your full potential and attain purposeful goals. Jade also helps lift stuffed-down emotional issues and bring them to light for resolution. Jade can be used as a dream-enhancer by slipping a chunk of it under your pillow or inside your pillow case while sleeping.  Its green color aligns it with the fourth or heart chakra, and is the “mystical” birthstone for March birthdays.

“Vermont Jade” is not a true jade but is actually a massive form of diopside that sometimes also contains green grossular garnet deposits. This durable stone, which is found in remote areas of Northern Vermont, exhibits a vibrant green coloration with a spattering of emerald green garnet inclusions.

Metaphysical:   In early American times, the jade of the Green Mountain state was considered a protector of vital energy as well as against invisible powers.
